The specialist's opinion
Udu Drums is originally from the Igbo (Ibo) people of southeastern Nigeria.
It is an old utility vessel that has become a popular percussion instrument.
In Igbo land, there are two versions of Udus, the one with a side hole was played by women. The other version is much larger and only has one wide mouth at the top. The Udu which evolved from the village communities was used in music orchestras, accompanied the dancers and in the narration with songs.
