In 1929, Perry Bechtel, a young guitarist, approached Martin to create a flattop guitar in the 000 shape but with a longer and narrower neck with a knuckle at the 14th fret.
This is how Martin created the first Orchestra model.
The OM shape was very popular with fingerpickers and only available to order for decades, before finally becoming a standard model in the 1990s. Today, it is the second most copied and sold shape in the world. This magnificent OM of the standard range has a soundboard is in spruce with the binding herringbone, the back and the sides in Indian rosewood. The OM-28 is one of the most iconic folk guitars. The LR Baggs Anthem amplification system is the combination of a piezo pickup and a microphone placed inside the guitar and delivers a rich and natural sound on stage, in the studio or even in your living room.
