The JRT 9/15 preamp powers two 5879 pentodes in tandem, each with its own independent volume control. These circuits are designed for radically different responses: one offers more treble presence and a later breakup, while the other offers less headroom and emphasizes low and mid frequencies, resulting in a dense, rich sound.

These complementary channels can be used individually or simultaneously to achieve the ideal response, bringing out the best qualities of each. A 6-position tone control provides the ideal adjustment, while the ''Cut'' knob reduces high frequencies as needed, while retaining presence and definition.

A key feature of the JRT 9/15 is its ability to switch between 9 watts, using a pair of 6V6 Class A tubes to deliver the warm, rich tones of vintage American amps from the 1950s, and 15 watts with a pair of EL84 Class AB tubes, reminiscent of British designs from the 1960s. Tone control and response, as well as volume flexibility, make the JRT 9/15 versatile enough for a wide range of performance and recording environments.
