The specialist's opinion

The Eris speakers are true studio monitors, offering a very precise response with solid bass and very clear highs.

Specification

With their Kevlar woofer, ultra-light silk dome tweeters, responsive Class AB amplification, and professional acoustic tuning controls, they've got it all. Among the 2 models in the range, you can easily find the Eris monitor that best suits your needs. The compact Eris E5 takes up little space and weighs less than 5 kg. Equipped with 2 amplifiers of 45W (boomer) and 35W (tweeter), it can handle a 102 dB of peak SPL for a frequency response of 64 Hz to 22 kHz. For an extended low frequency response and a little more power, the Eris E8 has 2 amplifiers of 75W (boomer) and 65W (tweeter), it can go down to 45 Hz. Like the E5, the E8 can reach 22 kHz. With its extra juice, the E8 can deliver up to 105dB SPL peak. Both Eris monitors have a front vent.

Today's music producers face a wide variety of musical genres. It is therefore essential to have controls that allow increased adaptability. The most basic control is the input gain, ie the definition of the levels for each step of the recording chain in order to obtain the clearest signal possible. The Eris range offers 3 EQ settings in the Acoustic Tuning section: Cutoff High, Mid and Low. These controls allow you to fine-tune the monitors depending on the environment or when using the E5 or E8 with a subwoofer. A 3-position switch, Acoustic Space drives a second-order shelving filter, it cuts at 800Hz (0dB, -2dB and -4dB) to compensate for the bass boost that occurs when the monitor is placed close from a wall or in a corner. This combination of controls allows you to create a linear response for precise monitoring. This allows you to simulate different listening environments, so you don't have to leave your studio to 'check' your mixes on other alternative listening systems.

Eris monitors offer protection against radio frequencies that could be induced in the signal, against overheating and a limitation of the output current (to avoid generating a short circuit on the loudspeaker terminals). In addition, a subsonic protection filters out low frequency vibrations that could interfere with the performance of the woofer. Finally, Eris power amplifiers benefit from a 'soft start' so as not to damage the speakers when powering up.

The PreSonus line of Eris monitors offer professional quality audio. They are light, compact and as beautiful as the sound they deliver. But what really sets them apart from comparably priced systems are user controls that allow you to tailor the speaker response to your needs.
