Dedication
Aurélienne Brauner
Notice
I was encouraged to write this work because of my very stimulating meeting with the cellist Aurélienne Brauner.
I chose as a starting point for this composition an evocation of the sea included in the poem "The Drunken Boat" by Arthur Rimbaud, "the swell attacking the reefs".
This is not, however, imitative music. I retained the idea of agitation, with discontinuous movements which always converge towards the same centers of attraction, under lighting whose permanent evolution causes subtle shimmers, all in a rather dramatic atmosphere.
Musically, it is a cell of four sounds that determines the overall structure of the composition, in a desire to save resources. This cell emphasizes the right fourth and the minor sixth, intervals that are heavily exploited. Throughout the piece, great importance is given to the harmonic color, as well as to the melodic lines that result from it, without neglecting the wide range of timbres offered by this magnificent instrument that is the cello.
